Botanical Name
Helianthus mollis
Common Name
Ashy Sunflower
Wetland Status
FACW
Perennial 2’- 6’ tall; leaves and stems are covered with rough hairs. Tolerates a wide variety of soils (except clay) if drainage is good. Grow in full sun with shelter from strong winds; yellow flowers bloom July – Sept. Local bird population loves to feed on the seed. Perhaps best in naturalized areas where it can spread to form large colonies as opposed to the formality of typical borders.
